Without doubt, the legislature is an essential instrument of government in organizing the state particularly through its most fundamental function; Law making. Although often overlooked, the tasks of the legislature are no small feats. Asides the core function of Law making, several other tasks such as representation, oversight function, deliberations, ratification of treaties, amongst others, are also saddled on the legislature. For ease of duties, Nigeria practices a bicameral system at the federal level and a unicameral system at the state level.
For many politicians in Nigeria, the journey to greater political feats usually begin from the legislative house, where they learn the ropes of governance while serving the people. In fact, many have also admitted to having to learn on the job. With the current rise in the brilliance of the youthful population it becomes necessary to prepare them well ahead of time for such a task.
The Nigerian youth population currently stands at over 33.6 million – over 16% of the total population. In no time, they shall begin to aspire for several political positions. Many hope to begin to learn governance particularly at the legislative level soon enough; in readiness for the actual task. We have observed that though there are quite a number of leadership academies across the country, only very few focus on governance; particularly the legislative arm. This proposal is presented to propose a periodic training session for young adults interested in the legislative arm of government.
The programme proposes to be an in-depth training for the selected beneficiaries who will be learning the fundamentals of the legislature in Nigeria, after which they will be attached to legislative members to provide for a more practical experience.
Duration
TURAKI YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY is implementing a 7-week long fulltime internship programme for young Kwarans who wish to gain knowledge of legislative practices and processes.
Requirements
At least, a Diploma certificate in any discipline.
Good English writing and speaking skills.
Good computer skills (Microsoft office packages).
Aged between 18 and 35 years

Logistics
Only stipends to cover transportation and lunch costs within Ilorin will be provided. Other logistics expenses will be borne by the intern. It is advised that prospective interns be able to reside within Ilorin or bear the cost of residing in there throughout the duration of the internship as accommodation is not inclusive in our provisions.

Practical attachment to kwara state house of assembly
Upon completion of the training, trainees will be attached to actual legislative members to learn the practical aspects of the training. This will ensure that the training achieves the desired effect of imparting knowledge, and ensuring experience.
